A few months ago The 22nd Bachelor was announced.
That announcement is something Bachelor Nation anxiously awaits every single year at around the same time.
We normally find out who the next bachelor is going to be by the time Bachelor in Paradise is on their 3rd or 4th “week”. This year, however, was a bit different. We found out 1-2 weeks after the BIP finale.
So since we had a lot of time on our hands, everyone started asking way too many questions:
Who is going to be the 22nd Bachelor? What hottie will be after Nick Viall? Is it Peter? Is it Wells? Dean? Will this person really be in it for the right reasons? Will they get engaged? Are they ready to settle down? Is anyone going to ever be better than Ben Higgins?
You know questions like that.
And then, before we knew it, the bomb was dropped.
Our 22nd Bachelor is going to be:
Arie Luyendyk Jr.
I am almost positive that everyone was in shock with this decision. Completely out of left field.
When they announced him, all I thought was WHO?!!??
Then I remembered exactly who he was.
He was on Season 8 of The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard’s Runner Up, a race car driver who speaks Dutch and was supposedly an amazing kisser, such an amazing kisser that they named him “The Kissing Bandit”!
Anyways, all of that really doesn’t matter, because they have already made their decision, and as I write this, it’s already too late. If everything goes great, he should be engaged before Thanksgiving.
We’re all happy for him, right?
I mean come on, he was on The Bachelorette Season 8 which was like
1200 5 years ago. And to be completely honest, he wasn’t as memorable as say Luke from Jojo Fletcher’s season (Season 12), or Peter from Rachel Lindsay’s season (Season13).
But, eventually I got it.
He isn’t as relevant, he has been out of the game for quite some time now. Now that, that is the main reason they chose him, and after really thinking about all of the pros & cons, I am almost positive they made a good decision.
Arie is already at that age in which he would like to settle down. He’s over the age of 30, he’s retired from Indy Race Car Driving and he is very open to falling in love. This could totally work for him, because it did before. Even though Emily didn’t choose him, he still did fall in love. Those feelings and emotions he felt were so very real. Not only that, but he also experienced one of his great friends, the dreamy Sean Lowe fall in love on Season 17, and hey at least out of everyone on The Bachelor, he is still with his choice, Catherine. They are married, have a beautiful baby boy, and another one on the way.
Hope is probably very much alive in Arie’s heart.
I am very, very excited to watch Arie go through a journey that will change his life forever. I hope he has fun, experiences new things, meets new people and most of all, I really do hope he falls madly in love and is down on one knee at the end of this season. Everyone deserves it, no exceptions.
We’ll learn a little more about him in each episode, along with possibly seeing things we haven’t seen before on the show. This could be the most dramatic season yet! (Chris Harrison voice)
Monday nights will be great again starting on January 1st! Definitely worth the wait!
In the meantime, while we’re waiting for January to come around, the ABC website is showing The Bachelorette Season 8 for free. Watching this will not only refresh our memory on Arie. It will also give us the opportunity to watch Emily and her sweet daughter Ricki on TV again! Click here to watch and enjoy.
